Why the standby bench decides your service level
Absence is not an exception in contract staffing — it is a monthly certainty. The question is whether your vendor has priced for it.
Every staffing contract has an unwritten assumption: that the people named in the deployment chart will report. Across a year, in an Indian metro, they will not — festivals, illness, monsoon, family obligation and attrition together account for a predictable 8 to 12 per cent absence rate.
Two ways vendors handle it
The cheap way is to absorb the gap — the remaining staff cover the shift, service quality drops, and nobody tells the client. The honest way is a funded bench: trained standby personnel, already inducted on your site, costed into the contract.
When you compare two quotations and one is noticeably cheaper, the difference is very often the bench. You are not saving money; you are buying the absence risk yourself.
